The Wildcats Play Hard in Close Game

The Kimball Union JV Field Hockey team was excited to step onto the field again today after a week break. Their opponent, the Northfield Mount Hermon Hogs, came out hard at the start of the game.  The Hogs played a supported, offensive game. The Kimball Union Wildcats midfield and defensive line continued to step up to ball and move to ball to the forward line. Captains Yiwen Xu and Sunny Sun played a patient defense along with Alexa Lambert, Aleena Masaeng, Ellie Copeland-Clarke, and Tess Boden.  After a couple of offensive corners, the Hogs managed to sneak in a goal during the first half. The Wildcats created their own offensive opportunities.  Hanna Wiczek, in the midfield, continuously pushed the ball through to the offensive line and Kelly Benson, Katie Ayers, Casey McCauley, and Hattie Kahl carried the ball to their offensive circle.  Benson had a few awesome breakaways and Ayers pulled off a couple great drives on net.  The NMH goalie and defense managed to keep the ball wide.
During the second half, the Wildcat goalie, Amelia Keith, saved some key shots keeping the game to one goal.  Nathaly Tlaseca Verde made a defensive save on the goalline after one shot got past the keeper. While the Wildcats were disappointed with the loss, they are determined to keep work hard the next two days at practice to prepare for the Brewster Bobcats on Saturday.
