All School Presidents Elected

Congratulations to Kimball Union's newest leaders, Anna '19 and Julian '19.

Leadership has always been at Kimball Union's core, so when the word was formally added to our Mission Statement, it solidified its inclusion in our curriculum and throughout the entire KUA experience. During the spring trimester, students reflect on their strengths and identify ways they can commit to campus leadership positions.

The first election held on campus is for Co-All School Presidents. This year, we had an impressive 7 candidates, many of whom are current leaders on campus. Most candidates expressed their desire to run based on their “love of KUA, and the personal growth they have experienced” in their time here. Anna and Julian were selected by the student body and faculty to be the Co-Presidents for the 2018-2019 school year.

Julian came to KUA in 9th grade, and has participated in many activities, from jv soccer, basketball, and rec skiing, to varsity soccer and varsity lacrosse. He is also a proctor in DR and a Global Scholar. Julian emphasized his goal to “respond to the needs of the community and be a strong advocate for (student) ideas.”

Anna came to KUA as a sophomore and has participated in theatre, dance, the Selects a Capella group, and the Winter Musical. Most recently, she traveled to New Zealand to perform with the KUA cast of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” Anna also participates in our Arts Scholar program. She stated that her “main goal was to be an approachable leader” that can get to know what “each student has to offer.”

Both Anna and Julian stressed their “desire to give back to KUA” for all they have gained from their time here. As Anna put it, “it is my happy place, and it is my home.” We are looking forward to their leadership next year.
