KUA scrimmages for the first time this season

Starting the week practicing 15’s rugby, the KUA side had only a couple of days to hone their sevens skills before heading off to Proctor Academy for a scrimmage that also included Smith Memorial. With many members new to the sport, it was an afternoon of learning on the fly. Sevens rugby is a very different game than the traditional rugby union fifteen-aside game. Having experienced players like captains Antonio Suer, Elliot Stevenson, Morgan Emmanuelle, Xavier Manning, Cole Petrescu-Boboc, Reese Stevenson, Charles Qian, Keetae Byunn, Tanner Fisher, Cody Nguyen, and Hamson Shen helped greatly on the afternoon. New players Andrew Jones, Thomas Le, Tong Pengkaew, Manuel Salamanca, and Nima Samini all got their first match experience on the afternoon.

KUA split the squad up into two teams to ensure ample playing time for all. Although scores were not officially kept for each match, at the end of the day the KUA side scored 9 try’s and allowed two. Xavier Manning had 6 try’s, and Elliot Stevenson, Tanner Fisher, and Reese Stevenson each had one.

Sevens rugby is fast paced and intense. Old Man Winter’s refusal to ease its grip on hallowed Kilton Pitch, kept the boys of rugby from their normal practice routine. Despite this setback, all played well on the afternoon.
