In Their Own Words: Annelise ’23

Annelise '23, is from Goshen, NY. She is president of the Queer-Straight Alliance, a dorm and DEIJ proctor, Art Scholar, and involved in theater. Her advice to incoming students is to "make it happen!"
What do you love about KUA?
The ability to make deep connections with not only peers, but with faculty, and have a home away from home with them, as they are mentors, while having them around to be there for us, teach us, and guide us.

What surprised you the most about being a student during your first year at KUA?
The amount of respect everyone holds for one another, and the support to all fields of life. Seeing a full audience of athletes at theater and dance shows was an eye-opening experience, as I was able to see how the entire community was intertwined, and everyone understood how widely spread we are as a campus.

What is one piece of advice you'd like to share with incoming students?
Make happen what you want. Want to start a club? Do it! Want to try a sport or the musical for the first time? Do it. Want to make a change or presentation on something you're passionate about? Do it. You are backed by a supportive community who will listen to you, no matter your endeavors. It’s ok to mess up, people will help you and pick you back up again. Go out and try the things you never thought of doing. Now is the time to explore.

Where is your favorite place on campus and why?
In the winter, my favorite place on campus is Art Studio A in Flickinger Arts Center. It is where every Saturday my friends and I watch movies, eat snacks, and have a great night with each other. During warm weather you can find us at the pickleball court or down at the track with a blanket for picnics.

What's your favorite meal from the dining hall?
My favorite meal from the dining hall is the creamy tomato soup. My mom and I have a roasted tomato recipe that I make every time I go home, and the one from the dining hall reminds me of it exactly, which makes me feel more at home.
