Big win for KUA

After coming up short on the road in the last few contests, the Wildcats were happy to back at home to host Proctor Academy. The attitude leading up to the game and in warmups sent a message that the 'Cats meant business today. Against a strong well coached Proctor team, KUA took hold of the game from the start and didn't let up. The 1st quarter was controlled by KUA. To watch the passing plays, long balls and use of the width of the field was fun to see. The hornets were on their heels and backed into their end for at the start of the game, and just over halfway through, Cam Callahan notched her second goal of the season. Portia Berard recorded her first point of the season with the assist on the goal. The two teams went back and forth for the rest of the half with KUA controlling play and attacking relentlessly. The 'Cats won some corners but couldn't convert and Proctors goalie came upon with some timely saves. The D was again stellar with the "Back 3" doing all they could to help keep the ball out of their end and away from Stella.
As the second half started, the 'Cats were on the attack once again. It took Proctor to win a corner for them to establish pressure. During the initial scramble, their tipper strategically stood in a spot that made moving for the ball impossible for Stella. Though she did all she could to get there, the feat was not possible and the ball went in to tie the score. Though the score was 1-1 now, KUA didn't miss a beat. The girls had a quick chat, gathered themselves brought the ball to half and prepared to restart.  Ainsley Lonczak passed the ball to Ariana Ftorek, who took the ball wide, went past 3 defenders and crossed the ball back to Ainsley who put it past the Proctor goalie to regain the lead just 17 seconds after the tying goal went in. KUA continued to control the play with a calculated attack for the forwards, great support from the midfield and solid defending from the back line. In the 4th quarter, off a corner, Portia Berard scored her first ever field hockey goal, and sealed the victory for the Wildcats. This is a big Lakes Region win for the team and gets them back on track for the season.
KUA plays host to Holderness this Saturday, on Pope field during family weekend.
