Wildcats Split Double-Header vs. New Hampton

After dropping Game 1 by a 4-2 score, the Wildcats stormed back with an 11-2 victory in Game 2 to split an opening-day double-header on Saturday at New Hampton. Down 4-0 after three innings in Game 1, the Wildcats clawed back within two runs and had the winning run on base in the final inning, but a New Hampton double play ended the rally. In the second game, the Wildcats jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first inning and never looked back, adding multiple runs in every inning but the second en route to the 11-2 win. Sophomore pitcher Emma Lapsley was outstanding on the mound for the Wildcats, pitching all ten innings while striking out 18 New Hampton batters. Lapsley also had three doubles and two runs scored to help pace the offense. Junior Shannon Moran had three hits and two runs scored on the day, one of each coming from a solo home run over the left-field fence in Game 2. Freshmen Lulu Leppard and Michaela Cokinos and sophomore Misora Hashiramoto also had multi-hit days for the Wildcats, while junior Audrey Donahue had two runs scored on the afternoon.
