Four-Goal First Propels KUA to Victory

A four-goal first period, followed by two goals each in the second and third, propelled the Wildcats to an 8-3 win over Proctor in Andover on Sunday. Six minutes into the game, defenseman Connor Chalmers took the puck the length of the ice and snapped a bar-down wrist shot from the left side to give KUA the lead. Thirty seconds later, Matthew Maltais scored from the slot and a minute after that, Alex Keller got into the act with his first goal as a Wildcat when he buried a one-timer to give KUA the 3-0 lead. A Proctor timeout did little to quell the surge, as a minute later Jaiden Moriello scored his first of two in the game when he corralled a loose puck on the half-wall and beat the goalie to the glove side. In the second period, Will Blackburn scored two goals for the Wildcats, though Proctor scored two of its own. Leading 6-2 after two periods, KUA kept the foot on the gas as Moriello scored his second of the game and Bryce Bollman rounded out the scoring. Proctor scored a late powerplay goal to make the final 8-3. Charlie Schenkel earned the win in net for KUA, making 23 saves.
