Wildcats Tie Season Opener

The JV Field Hockey Team was eager to play this past Saturday in their first game of the season. The weather was sunny and warm, the turf was fast and the energy was high. Though the team has many first time players this year, they all started the game with confidence and adjusted their play based on the calls made.
The team veterans, senior Amelia Keith and senior Nathaly Tlaseca-Verde led the backfield as goalie and center back. They guided the play to our dominant side while also protecting our goal. Newcomers, Vlada Voznesenskaia and Ella Venus played smart and conservative defense. In the midfield, Lola Kuczynka, Sophie Coehlo, Naomi Mervo-Kovacs, and Michaela Cokinos dominated play by supporting the offensive line while also hustling back to redefend. Forwards Lea Castell, Gabi Ringelstein, Katie Ayers and Analena Connors and Paige Gamble intercepted balls, passed effectively, and moved the ball down the field.
The New Hampton Huskies scored the first goal during the first half of the game. The Wildcats continued to push, earning our first offensive corner and many offensive opportunities. Ayers managed to score the KUA goal, after a melee in front of the net. Keith finished the game with 4 saves in net.

The team travels to Proctor next Saturday to play the Hornets.
