KUA Tops Holderness, Clinches Home Ice for Lakes Region Playoffs

Junior Zak Brice stopped 30 shots and senior Tomas Mazura scored an unassisted goal halfway through the third period to lift the Wildcats to a 2-1 road victory over Holderness on Friday. Despite missing two of their top goal scorers due to illness, the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead midway through the second when junior Liam Walsh fed classmate Bryce Bollman on the rush and Bollman blasted a slapshot from the top of the circles to beat the Holderness goalie. Senior Andrew Noel also assisted on the play. Holderness tied the game minutes later on the powerplay, knotting the score at one heading into the third. In the third, Brice made several critical stops, setting the stage for Mazura to intercept a Holderness breakout pass, skate in on a partial breakaway, and beat the goalie with a quick shot for what turned out to be the winning goal. With the victory, KUA clinched home ice for the Lakes Region playoffs, to be held Friday, Feb. 28th and Saturday, Feb. 29th.
