Powerplay, Goaltending Lead to Win at Cushing

The Wildcats scored two powerplay goals and got 37 saves from senior Veeti Kohvakka to beat Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, MA on Saturday. KUA got on the scoresheet on the game's first shift, as Zach Whitehead's breakaway goal gave the visitors a 1-0 lead. Sullivan Mack and Andrew Noel earned assists. Two first-period goals from Cushing gave the home team the 2-1 lead after one, but in the second, Paul Dore scored on the powerplay to knot the game. Luca Fantilli and Tomas Mazura earned assists. With the score tied in the third, the KUA powerplay went to work again as Teddy Griffin one-timed a pass from Fantilli to beat the Cushing goalie and give the Wildcats a lead they would not relinquish. Mazura tallied his second assist of the game on the play. Cushing pushed back with the goalie pulled for the extra attacker, but Kohvakka shut the door.
