Special Teams Push KUA Past Deerfield

The Wildcats killed off eight Deerfield powerplays and added both a shorthanded and a powerplay goal to defeat Deerfield 3-1 at the Flood Marr Tournament. Senior Donte Pierre opened the scoring by pressuring the Deerfield defenders, stealing the puck, and sliding it five-hole on the Deerfield goalie just minutes into the game. Later in the first, Tomas Mazura and Adam Fantilli went to work on the penalty kill and Mazura set up Fantilli for a shorthanded marker to give KUA a 2-0 lead after one period. The score stayed that way until the third when Deerfield got within one goal, but a Paul Dore powerplay marker with four minutes to play capped the scoring and restored the Wildcats' lead. Veeti Kohvakka (19 saves) and the KUA defense did the rest, killing off a two-man deficit in the final minutes.
