Kimball Union values the many forms of artistic expression. Whether in the studio, on stage, in the dance or practice studios, art is all around us at KUA. Student creation is the epicenter of our arts programming, and we encourage all students to participate.
Visual Arts

In the classroom, students choose from a wide range of fine arts from introductory to the AP levels. Taught by teachers who are all working artists, students learn to work in materials such as oil and acrylic paint, pencil and charcoal, wood, clay, and print film. All classes integrate history, theory, and aesthetics within a hands-on production environment.

Through hands-on practice, students learn the principles of art and design. As they observe, compose and create their artwork, students develop confidence in their own decision-making processes and discover their unique creative voices.

Our unique Ensemble Peiod is a block is a “sacred space” in the schedule dedicated to performance ensembles free of conflict with other school activities.

Passionate about the Arts?

Launched in 2017, the Art Scholar program centers student learning through the creation and exploration of art. Through course work and production, Art Scholar students have a breadth and depth of understanding in their area of focus: visual arts, dance, theater or music. Making art on and off campus is supplemented with viewing art and an understanding of how these expressions reflect the society in which we live.
