The Kimball Union Library

Kimball Union's library serves the school community's curricular, research, and recreational needs. The collection comprises some 14,000 volumes in print and thousands of items in other formats, including videos and sound recordings. Many resources are accessible through a dozen scholarly databases available on and off campus to KUA students and faculty. In addition, the library has computers, printers, and a copier for use by students and faculty.  

Reference and Instruction

The librarians are available on school days to assist with the use of materials located in the library, as well with as with online resources. KUA students, faculty, and staff may email questions about research or the library's resources anytime to

Teachers are encouraged to schedule a session in the library for their classes. A librarian will help students to formulate research questions, construct effective online searches, and locate relevant materials. With advance notice, classes are welcome to use the library as space permits.

PLEASE NOTE: As a general rule, the library opens a half hour before the first class period (for example, at 8:30 if classes begin at 9:00). The library is closed on evenings with Quiet Hours or Check-In and during all-school events. Hours vary during long weekends and other days with no classes. Exceptions to regular hours will be posted.

Loan Periods

Books: 3 weeks
CDs: 2 weeks
DVDs: overnight
No new loans with overdues.

Faculty may arrange longer loan periods for class use. 

Reserves are for in-library use only and may be checked out hourly.

Library Donations

The library greatly appreciates donations of materials that support teaching and learning at KUA. Such donations have enriched the library's collection over the years by adding new titles and replacing lost or damaged books. We welcome the opportunity to discuss books you are considering donating in order to help find a suitable home for them, whether here or elsewhere. Please contact the Library Director, Marianna McKim (603-469-2022). To donate archival materials, please contact the Academy Archivist, Jane Fielder (603-469-2066). If you are interested in supporting Kimball Union's collections, programs and facilities with a monetary gift, contact the Director of Advancement, Polly Antol (603-469-2125).
Kimball Union reserves the right to dispose of unneeded gift materials by selling, trading or recycling them.
