KUA’s Wind Turbine
Kimball Union’s Burgee 5 kilowatt wind turbine was installed on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 by Atlantic Alternative Energy Resources. Based on our location and the windmill characteristics, we expect to generate just under 10,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. This will get Kimball Union started toward of our ultimate goal of producing 30% electricity onsite from renewable resources. Monitoring the turbine’s wind production and activity will provide an important educational opportunity for KUA students.
This project was made possible by Charlotte Herbert, a KUA 2011 graduate, through her Senior Capstone project two years ago. Charlotte created the site design and petitioned the Plainfield Zoning Board and Conservation Commission for all the necessary permits. Since graduating, she orchestrated the fundraising that ultimately paid for the project.

Joining the wind turbine in April of 2015 is the Miller Bicentennial Hall photovoltaic array. Real-time production data can be found at theSolarEdge kiosk for the system.
