Two Saturday mornings, January 19 (for Seniors and Sophomores) and February 16 (for Juniors and Freshmen), have been set aside in the busy winter schedule for KUA mission-aligned programming for each class.
Established in 1983 with a gift from Hugh Cullman '42, the Cullman Scholarship Program supports students in off-campus study opportunities. During the summer of 2018, nine scholarship recipients pursued courses of study ranging volunteering with Real Cochabamba Soccer Academy in Bolivia to interning with the Industrial Bank of China’s Green Financial Division. Recently, Winter '19 gave a presentation at All School Meeting about her Cullman Scholarship volunteering with The Spring Initiative in Clarksdale, Mississippi.
Having won previous state and national Real World Design Challenges, KUA’s team finds itself in the spotlight again this year. The 2019 state challenge on Jan 4th, 2019 was to design an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS, or drone), create a theory of operation, and develop a business plan for the commercial operations of the system based on the following scenario:

Recently, Alex '19 gave a presentation at All School Meeting about his Cullman Scholarship interning in a lab at the Dunn School of Pathology at the University of Oxford.
Prior to Winter Break, STEM activity began an exciting design challenge. “We had 11 students who separated into 4 teams of 2 or 3,” remarks Sean McDonough, Faculty Advisor of STEM Activity. He continues, “Each group learned about what goes into a computer, what each part does, what’s good, what’s bad – basically how to design a computer from scratch.”
