Molly Cherington grew up in the Meriden, learning guitar when she picked up her father’s acoustic
guitar while still at KUA. She immediately began writing her own
songs, cultivating a creative beginning as a contemporary solo artist.
A few years ago, Molly was drawn to the creative arts
scene at the foot of the Rockies in the Denver/Boulder,
Colorado area. Using it as a base to tour nationally from, she has
developed into a beautifully charismatic performer and song writer, poised to
bring her charm, humor and sharp song-writing sensibility to an ever-expanding
and eager fan base.
In addition to her blossoming
music career in Denver , Molly has paired up with Slam Poet Katie Wirsing (2006
Denver Slam Team National Champions). Their first tour throughout New
York and New
England in April 2007 was a success that opened a lot of doors for them.
And a series of dates she did last Spring , opening for songwriter
Erin McKeown, solidified her place as a confident touring
artist.
She has also been asked to
provide the soundtrack for “Ripples Cross,” an upcoming film
by activist film maker, Mark Turner, who says of Molly, "If I didn't love listening to (the music) so much,
I'd tell her to do stand up…She's charming and funny."
Molly has now come back to her roots in
New
England in part to work with Mark on his film. The next several months
will find her based in Boston
and touring throughout the Northeast. This show at the Grange will kick-off a
series of dates to showcase her new CD.
Since arriving on the live music scene, Cherington has
garnered increased acclaim, with fans and critics referring to her live
performances as works of beauty. While she may be referred to as an
“up-and-comer” (by the famed Colorado
venue “Swallow Hill”), that title won’t last for long. Her delicate demeanor
coaxes the souls of those in attendance. Grounded by a comforting stage
presence and intelligent and self-relating lyrics, she identifies with her
listeners, much like many of the folk greats that came before her. She and her
music are endearing, witty and most importantly,
refreshing.
She released her first EP, Molly Cherington in March 2007 and very
recently her debut full-length album, Our
Minds Were Made, was released in December. Now in the beginning of
2008, she aims to break out from under the musical radar.
By coincidence, The Plainfield Community Church will be
hosting their bi-monthly Chicken Pot Pie dinner at the Blow-Me-Down Grange from
5:30 – 6:30pm. on Saturday night. A full dinner can be purchased downstairs at
the hall for just $6.50. Patrons could then go upstairs for the pre-show
desserts and show. While not required, reservations are suggested for the
dinner only by calling 603-675-6510.
