KUA Athletic Trainers Receive NHATA Award

Katherine Bello and Bob Hyjek Recognized as NH Most Distinguished Trainers 2006

Kimball Union Academy athletic trainers Katherine Bello and Bob Hyjek were recognized by New Hampshire Athletic Trainers Association NHATA) president Neil Duval at an all school assembly at Kimball Union today as the recipients of the NHATA 2006 NH Most Distinguished Trainer Award. Members of the KUA community paid tribute to them with a standing ovation following the announcement and award presentation.

Kimball Union Academy athletic trainers Katherine Bello and Bob Hyjek were recognized by New Hampshire Athletic Trainers Association NHATA) president Neil Duval at an all school assembly at Kimball Union today as the recipients of the NHATA 2006 NH Most Distinguished Trainer Award. Members of the KUA community paid tribute to them with a standing ovation following the announcement and award presentation.

The NH Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award recognizes a certified and licensed member of the New Hampshire Athletic Trainers' Association for their outstanding contributions to the profession of athletic training.

“Bob and Katherine were nominated in part do to their involvement with implementation of a school wide Automated External Defibrillator (AED) program and their involvement in the rescue of sudden cardiac arrest victim and KUA junior, Matt Keene, last fall,” said Neil Duval.

Matt Keene ’07 was on hand, and with Neil Duval and presented the two with their award.

Katherine Bello and Bob Hyjek had been previously acknowledged and recognized at the Eastern Athletic Trainers' Association Annual Conference and Symposium on Saturday, January 6, 2007 in Boston,MA at the NHATA state meeting.

“ Our athletic trainers are unsung heroes, often behind the scenes, and when it counted they came through in a way that not only saved a life, but made an enormous difference in the sense of security we all have at our school,” said Mike Schafer, Head of School “We couldn’t be more proud of them or more pleased that they have been recognized by NHATA and received this important and well-deserved award.
