Athletes of the Week - February 6th

Nordic and Alpine Skiers earn Athlete of the Week Accolades

In a JV slalom contest at Gunstock, this skier turned in a remarkable performance by finishing in first place. In the process of winning the race, Geoffrey Ballou '09 beat the second place finisher by nearly 8 seconds, which is an eternity in ski racing. None of his coaches were prepared for such a strong performance. It is common practice for the best skier on a team to wear the no. 1 bib, thereby skiing first for his or her team. In a selfless, team first display, Geoffrey said that if we wanted to run him later in the run order, in order to give a teammate a better chance, that would be okay with him. Geoffrey Ballou is this week’s male athlete of the week not only because of his strong racing performance, but because of his selflessness to his team.

The female athlete of the week has been nominated not just be her coach, but by her whole team. Aleksey Scott '10 is new to the sport of Nordic skiing and although she has never really skied before she is determined to finish each race. Last week Aleksey entered a 5K and even though it took her an hour and a half, she persevered and finished the race for KUA. Aleksey’s coach and teammates were very proud of her determination, and her efforts made the race for them. This week’s Female Athlete of the week is Aleksey Scott.
