Peter Maher, Road Cycling; Bianca Brenz, Softball

Peter Maher entered road cycling this season, mostly because of his love of the sport of cycling but more interestingly, because he has planned a 4200 mile ride, crossing the United States this summer to raise a goal of $100,000.00 to assist in the building of the Beverly School in Kenya. To date he has raised nearly $18,000.00 for this endeavor.

Athletically, he has been delivering some impressive wins in his first year as a competitive road cyclist. He, along with team mate Brian Moses, won the first team time trial at Phillips Andover recently, and placed second in the torturous and hilly Waterville Valley race, hosted by Holderness School last week.

Most recently he soundly defeated a field of 32 boys from ten different schools in a track race in Claremont, New Hampshire. He is currently leading his division in the New England Prep School series. With these continued winning results, he has a very legitimate chance to win the overall New England title at the end of the 2008 season.

Peter has combined academic and athletic excellence with an exceptional desire to serve his fellow man on a global scale.

Bianca Brenz has been a tremendous addition to the girls’ varsity softball team. Only a freshman, she plays beyond her years. Although clearly a defensive force at first base, she is also quite capable of playing any position on the field – a true utility player. This past week, she helped lead the Wildcats to back-to-back victories. Against Holderness, Bianca assisted on several outs and turned a double play while preventing the tying run for the Bulls. She was equally impressive at the plate and on the base path, and as the leadoff batter, was two-for-three with a triple, while scoring three runs and stealing four bases in a close, six to five win. In Wednesday’s 28-13 victory over the Proctor Hornets, she went two- for- four from the plate, pounding a triple and a double, scoring four runs, two RBI’s and registering a team-high six stolen bases. She again turned a double play when she snagged a hard hit line drive and caught another runner off third base. This athlete not only brings talent to this young Wildcat squad, but also brings an abundance of team spirit and enthusiasm. She is a pleasure to coach and certainly has a bright future on the softball diamond.
