Anthro and Chem Classes Tackle Nutrition and the Environment

3/10/2010
Tom Lord's Chemistry classes and Lyn Lord's Anthropology classes combined forces in a project that focused on the chemical makeup of food, the cultural connections, and the use and abuse of species and environment. This research culminated in a shopping trip to a local grocery store, pen in the hand of teams of two- an Anthropology student to determine the environmental and cultural make up and a Chemistry student, to determine the chemical make up in one day of meals for a family of four. Divided into low, moderate and liberal income households, students shopped, evaluated what they could afford, and assessed the state of affairs in America¹s food culture. They will never look at food the same way!
