Dr. Caroline Heldman Addresses KUA.

On Friday, October 14, noted political scientist Dr. Caroline Heldman spoke in KUA's All School Meeting. She addressed the community about the evolving role of women in politics, a topic on everyone’s mind as we approach the upcoming presidential election. Molly ’17 remarked, “Dr. Heldman is a huge inspiration. She, as a woman in politics, knows how to shoulder the criticism she receives, and I aspire to that. She is also an exceptional public speaker who was able to back up her message with statistical evidence. It is much more difficult to receive criticism when you’re talking about facts.”

After her talk, Heldman attended Mr. Weintraub’s Comparative Politics class where students from over 10 different countries engaged in further conversation. “It was interesting to introduce another perspective into the community,” remarked Esme ’17. “(Dr. Heldman) was thought-provoking and started a conversation. We continued to talk about it at lunch and at Society of Skeptics,” said Seana ’19.

As our students develop their own personal belief systems and worldviews, KUA presents speakers and introduces topics that represent a variety of perspectives. Stepping outside of one’s comfort zone to develop a broader global understanding allows students to become independent thinkers and communicators. We thank Dr. Heldman for contributing an inspiring and thought-provoking address to our Election 2016 Speaker Series.
