International Education Convention Energises Aberdeen

Pupils from Africa, America, Asia, Australia and Europe gather in Aberdeen for a week-long event ‘Energise the World’s Future’. Every year the Global Alliance for Innovative Learning (GAIL) schools come together to share the vision and ethos of international education and global citizenship in different locations around the world. This year, Robert Gordon's College in Aberdeen, Scotland, is hosting the annual convention with peers from international schools to participate in an energy based challenge ‘Sustainable Energy for all’. The challenge will culminate in a final
with judging panel Douglas Craig (Chairman and Managing Director of Craig Group),
Damian Bates (Editor-In- Chief of ‎Aberdeen Journals) and Panel Chair Simon Mills, (Head of Robert Gordon's College) on Friday 1 July 2016. Gregor Duncan, International Co-ordinator at Robert Gordon’s College, said: “Robert
Gordon's College is delighted to welcome the Global Alliance for Innovative Learning (GAIL) network of schools to the UK. This is a great opportunity for pupils to engage with the international experiences of their peers, gaining invaluable experience of different cultures, issues and make enduring global friendships. In addition to the team challenge the delegation will also hear from guest industry speakers including Deirdre Michie of Oil and Gas UK and Rita Brown, Editor of Energy Voice.”
Simon Mills, Head of Robert Gordon’s College added: “Through this alliance, pupils and staff from each institution can experience living and working together in pursuit of a global objective: to learn from each other, to recognise a common humanity which transcends cultural and religious differences and to see one’s own culture from a different perspective. We formed the alliance in 2014 with schools in other parts of the world whose vision and ethos we share. Committed to improving the quality of learning and teaching we have had the opportunity to host visiting staff fellowships here in Aberdeen, and provide the opportunity for our teachers to participate in research projects across the world.”

The Global Alliance for Innovative Learning started with an official launch event at the Sir Duncan Rice Library (University of Aberdeen) on Sunday 26 July 2016 and finishes on Friday 1 July 2016 at Robert Gordon’s College, Schoolhill, Aberdeen.
