Kimball Union Receives a Grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation

Kimball Union Academy is the recent recipient of a $50,000 grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation. This exciting grant launches programs supporting global education.

In 2014, our school community was shocked with the brutal murder of Steven Sotloff ’02 at the hands of the ISIS terror group. Steven’s love of journalism and passion for cultural awareness began at Kimball Union. Our global scholars program was launched in Steven’s honor, and in support of our diverse school community.

The Edward E. Ford Foundation’s grant, combined with the requisite matching funds, will allow Kimball Union to expand our student’s knowledge of the economic, political, cultural, and social issues facing our world.  Through interdisciplinary coursework, experiential learning opportunities, and investments in our faculty and facilities, our global studies programming is positioned to equip students with the skills they need to have a positive global impact and become leaders in their chosen field.

Through this grant, we have begun, and will continue to support:
  • Student and Faculty participation in the Global Alliance for Independent Learning (GAIL) conferences throughout the world
  • Creation of courses focused on journalism and communications skills
  • Establish a speaker series, seminars, and workshops for aspiring student journalists from around the world, hosted on our campus
  • Continued support of the Global Scholars Diploma

Our emphasis on writing skills and journalism allows students the ability to communicate, think critically, and respond compassionately with individuals throughout the world. Combined with our global alliances, students and faculty are able to collaborate through project-based experiences and exchange programs.

We are very grateful for the grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation, and the opportunity to partner with Alumni, parents, and friends of Kimball Union to further support the growth of global scholarship.
