Kimball Union Partners with the Independent Curriculum Group

Kimball Union partnered with ICG, a group that supports its member schools to develop “the capacity to design and implement high quality, mission-based, teacher created curriculum and assessments.”  KUA now has another affiliation that gives us access to the expertise and energy of over 90 like-minded schools.
Kimball Union became a Partner School in the Independent Curriculum Group.  The Independent Curriculum Group (ICG) originated in 2002 when a number of schools coalesced around the idea that schools could offer excellent curricula without being tied to the College Board’s AP Program.  ICG, rather than focusing on the negative aspects of the AP curriculum and other third-party programs, supports its member schools to develop “the capacity to design and implement high quality, mission-based, teacher created curriculum and assessments.”  KUA now has another affiliation that gives us access to the expertise and energy of over 90 like-minded schools - schools that seek to best serve their students without being handcuffed by standardized, one-size-fits-all curricula.  As we anticipate the change process we have begun to undertake, a number of faculty members recently participated in a webinar run by ICG pertaining to the planning for and implementing changes to a school's schedule.  We anticipate participation in future professional development opportunities sponsored by the group.
