July Trip to India

As the Academy moves toward inception of its Global Scholars Program, a number of associated international travel opportunities are developing for students. In July, a group led by faculty sponsors Erin Mellow (Math) and Joshua Hunnewell (World Languages and International Student Coordinator)  represented Kimball Union as The Woodstock School hosted GAIL’s (Global Alliance for Innovative Learning) second leadership conference that featured immersion in local history, geography, ecology, religious sites as well as volunteer opportunities. On the way they were able to take in some of the India’s major cultural sites including New Delhi, Jaipur, The Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Red Fort, and the Jama Masjid mosque (the largest in India).

Erin and Joshua are leading development on campus of the Global Scholars Program. Student participants will follow a diploma path that emphasizes global awareness and citizenry on the way to earning a certificate of completion at graduation. KUA’s appreciation of the importance to students of broad social awareness and understanding in an increasingly interconnected global society and economy has led to the creation of this signature program.
